The LG Chem Global Innovation Challenge is an open call for startups worldwide, with solutions to our challenges within the domains of Circular Plastics, Carbon Utilization, Renewable Hydrogen, and Sustainable Battery. We are eager to identify collaboration partners that are driven by a passion for innovation and sustainability. Successful PoCs have the potential for deeper collaboration with our designated departments – Business Service Center (EU and USA), Open Innovation Department (HQ), M&A Department (HQ), Business Strategy Department (HQ).


The domain of Circular Plastics is a concept encompassing both bio and conventional plastics while focusing on a minimizing waste and maximising the reuse of scarce resources. Thereby, transitioning to a more sustainable plastic supply chain.

Within the domain of Circular Plastics, we are looking for solutions in the following areas:

  • Biodegradable plastics
  • Bioplastic recycling
  • Feedstock
  • Bio-based additives
  • Fermentation scale-up
  • Advanced recycling
  • Bio-monomer producing bacteria
  • Bio-naphtha

We are looking for innovative startups to explore collaboration opportunities in the domain of Hydrogen. Within the Hydrogen domain the focus lies on three key areas: Utilization, Green and Blue Hydrogen Generation, which are crucial in enabling a more sustainable energy sector.


Within the domain of Renewable Hydrogen, we are looking for solutions in the following areas:

  • Green hydrogen generation technologies
  • Renewable blue hydrogen
  • Hydrogen utilization & applications

Carbon Utilization may take a wide variety of forms but is in essence the collection of Carbon from either the atmosphere or industrial processes, where Utilization refers to using the collected carbon for a useful purpose rather than emitting it into the environment.


Within the domain of Carbon Utilization, we are looking for solutions in the following areas:

  • Plastics, fuel & chemicals
  • Building materials & additives

Li-ion batteries have a high energy density compared to older batteries and do not lose storage capacity with continued use. We’re keen to work with innovative technologies in this direction to build smarter, more efficient and greener batteries.
